The Fourfold Gospel

Jesus Christ our Saviour

This is the first blessing bestowed upon sinners by the Gospel of Christ: that through faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the forgiveness of sins, justification, and the gift of eternal life.

The Bible clearly teaches that sin is a deliberate rebellion and an attitude of hostility towards God; it is the natural expression of a corrupt nature that is dead in trespasses. Nothing can resolve the problem of sin except the infinite grace and power that come from God.

We believe that, according to the Scriptures, Jesus Christ acted as the “righteous for the unrighteous”. He gave His life as our ransom, and it is only through His precious blood that we are saved. We are justified by His death and resurrection and are accepted by the Heavenly Father through His name.

We also believe that when a sinner believes the Gospel and accepts Jesus as Saviour, his sins are immediately forgiven, his soul is instantly reborn, and he becomes a child of the Heavenly Father. He shall inherit eternal glory, having “gained access into this grace in which we now stand”, enjoying all the privileges of the Father’s house.

Jesus Christ our Sanctifier

The doctrine of sanctification we proclaim is this: the Lord Jesus dwells within our hearts and moves in our actions so that we are transformed into His likeness. Sanctification is a life of simple trust, depending on Christ moment by moment. Entering into this abundant blessing requires two steps: complete surrender and receiving Christ through simple faith. To abide in Christ through these conditions—obedience and faith—is the secret of sanctification. As Paul said: “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him” (Colossians 2:6).

God accomplishes the work of sanctification through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s work is to reveal to us that the Lord Jesus can sanctify us, while Christ, through the Holy Spirit, provides for every need in our spiritual life. Therefore, in terms of timing, the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the experience of sanctification through our union with Christ occur simultaneously. The Holy Spirit never works independently of Christ; rather, He reveals all that is of Christ to us.

The experience of sanctification is a certain and clear turning point in each of our life stories; it is not a state that a believer enters through gradual self-improvement, but an experience gained through union with Christ: “God has made him [Christ] our wisdom, our righteousness, our holiness" (1 Corinthians 1:30).

Jesus Christ our Healer

This is a simple doctrine within the Bible: Christ heals the body. Regarding this, we believe in receiving Christ’s healing through simple faith. Put simply: the Lord Jesus has prepared the strength and healing required for the bodies of His obedient and faithful children; this blessing is as abundant as the spiritual blessings He has prepared in the Gospel. “He... took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” (Matthew 8:17). We can still draw health and strength from the resurrected life of Christ through faith today, until our life’s work is complete. Christ is our Great High Priest; He sympathises with our weaknesses, and He remains the same today as in the past: “all who touched him were healed” (Mark 6:56).

Obtaining this blessing requires three conditions: first, total surrender to Christ, being willing to use the life and health received from Him for His glory and service; second, accepting His promises with unwavering faith; third, abiding in Him and depending on Him moment by moment to draw the strength needed for the body.

Jesus Christ our Coming King

We believe that the Lord Jesus will personally descend to earth; His return refers to the Lord Jesus Himself coming down to earth. His descent is as real as His ascension. He will not return after the Millennium, but rather, upon His return, He will establish His kingdom of glory, righteousness, and peace.

Most importantly, we should watch and wait for the Lord’s coming, longing for His appearing and living under His reign.

This blessed hope is a powerful spiritual force that helps us lead holy and watchful lives, faithfully striving to spread the Gospel throughout the world, because “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14).

The four aspects mentioned above are excerpts from the writings of Dr A.B. Simpson, which sufficiently clarify the beliefs and purpose of the C&MA. The Church today needs precisely this kind of complete Gospel. It delivers us from false beliefs and spiritual failure, and it inspires our faith, hope, and love. Let us receive it ourselves and pass it on to those around us, pointing out that it is the complete Gospel needed by individuals and the entire world.
